British-era Kalyan railway station set for a ₹900-crore makeover
Central Railway (CR) is planning to upgrade the 169-year-old Kalyan railway station in Mumbai, India with a long-distance train terminus and other facilities. The upgrade, estimated to cost ₹900 crore ($121m), will help segregate tracks for suburban local trains and express trains, improving punctuality and reducing inconvenience for passengers. The project is expected to be completed by 2025-26. The redevelopment will also include a railway office building, retail and commercial buildings, and a multi-level car parking.

From Saturday night, no local trains between Kharghar and Panvel stations for 38 hours
Central Railway will enforce a 38-hour mega block on the Kharghar-Panvel route starting 11pm on Saturday, resulting in 170 cancelled services and 700 trains being short terminated at Belapur. The block is necessary for the construction of two new lines for a western dedicated freight corridor.

HC closes arguments on challenge to amended IT rules; verdict on Dec 1
The Bombay High Court concluded arguments on challenges to the constitutional validity of India's amended IT rules, which empower the government to set up a fact-checking unit to filter social media for fake news. The court will announce its verdict on December 1. The petitions claim that the rules infringe on freedom of speech and expression. 2,50,000 idols immersed, floral offerings turned into agarbattis
Over 39,000 idol immersions took place on the final day of Ganeshotsav in Mumbai, with a total of over 205,000 immersions over the ten-day festival. Natural water bodies were still the preferred choice for immersions, but artificial ponds are becoming more popular. The BMC collected 500 metric tonnes of flower remains, which will be converted into compost for use in the gardens department. In G North ward, the remains are made into incense sticks. The NGO Shiva Sneha Samajik Pratistik has developed a process to turn the flowers into incense sticks, with 70% of the flower remains usable.

Court grants bail to Sachin Waze in Goregaon extortion case
Dismissed police officer Sachin Waze has been granted bail in an extortion case involving former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh. The case has been transferred to the CBI. Waze was arrested in November 2021 and had sought bail claiming he had served half of the maximum sentence. Others accused in the case include Alpesh Patel and Sumit Singh. Waze was previously arrested by the NIA for his alleged involvement in the Antilia bomb scare case and the murder of Mansukh Hiran. He was dismissed from service in May 2021.
